MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BRIAN HOLDERMAN
As principal, I aspire to establish a school culture and educational program conducive to student learning and socialization that promotes teamwork and cooperation. I coordinate my efforts with parents and family members to ensure students remain focused and disciplined and receive the appropriate attention to meet their needs. Among staff, I will help to maintain a high level of knowledge, trust and support. It is my desire to build a strong educational foundation that supports our students and their families growth through the joy of creativity and discovery, educational excellence, and positive life choices.
This is Principal Brian's 27th year in Chico Unified School District. He has taught in all grade levels (K-6) as well as four years as a Fine Arts Specialist and six years in the G.A.T.E. program.
He received his Master's in Education Administration from Chico State University in 2010. Since graduation Principal Brian has served as the Healthy Start coordinator, Title 1 coordinator, and as the Transitional Kindergarten coordinator for various sites in Chico Unified until accepting the position as Principal at Hooker Oak School. Education is very important to Principal Brian. He believes that a child should be invited into a classroom that promotes the whole child and not one that just dictates lessons. Children need to feel safe so they can take risks in their learning. He also believes that children need to be held responsible to high standards. Further, being respectful to one another is instrumental in having a positive educational experience.
Principal Brian is very excited about working with the staff and parents at Hooker Oak Elementary, helping our students to achieve their full potential. It is his belief it does indeed take a village to develop a child to be a successful member of our society.
