My name is Emily Mullins and I am the proud principal of Hooker Oak Elementary School. I was a Hooker Oak Acorn back in the 80s, attending Kindergarten-6th grade. I also attended Chico Junior and Chico Senior High School. I received my BA and Multiple Subject credential from CSU Chico and then later went back to complete the requirements for my Masters in Educational Leadership and an administrative credential. I was a classroom teacher for ten years, teaching in grades kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 5th before becoming the Principal/Superintendent of a K-8 charter school. I have also worked as the Special Projects & Curriculum Coordinator for Gridley Unified School District and the Principal of Fairview Elementary School in Orland.
I am married to my husband Gabe, who is a 5th-grade teacher at Sierra View Elementary. We have three beautiful daughters. Our oldest daughter, Lucca, is a junior at CSU Chico. Our middle daughter, Siena, is a freshman at Chioc High School. and our youngest, Harper, is in second grade. I enjoy running, reading, traveling (especially to Hawaii), cooking, working in the yard, and spending quality time with my family and friends.
My goal as a principal is to build and maintain a positive culture where students, staff, and families are beating down the doors to get INTO school...not out. I value parent involvement, positive relationships, and authentic learning experiences, which are all important components of the culture at Hooker Oak. I love being a Principal in Action- experiencing the excitement of learning in every classroom, doing classroom read-alouds, being invited to observe an awesome lesson or even be a guest teacher, playing with kids at recess, and celebrating students’ success!
